Mentoring Pastors
As a strategy for developing Asian American young adult leadership, one of the components of the AADVENT project is the "Mentoring Pastors Program." The purpose of the mentoring pastors program is to connect Asian American pastors with Asian American young adults for on-going relationship of support, encouragement, and guidance.
The AADVENT project invites Asian American parish pastors serving in a variety of contexts - Asian American congregations, immigrant congregations, predominantly White congregations, multi-racial/multi-cultural congregations, etc. - who are committed to developing Asian American leadership to consider becoming a "mentoring pastor."
Expectations of Mentoring Pastors
Participate in Mentoring Pastors Consultation – April 13-15, 2008
This three-day consultation will bring together mentoring pastors:
- to build supportive and collaborative relationship with each other,
- to introduce them to all the aspects of the AADVENT project and McCormick Theological Seminary;
- to think together about possibilities and barriers involved in developing Asian American leadership;
- to prepare them for the mentoring role they will undertake.
Taste of Seminary Leadership Seminars
Several pastors will be chosen from the consultation group to serve as mentoring pastors during the TASTE of Seminary Leadership Seminar, June 29 to July 7, 2007. During this week, pastors will begin developing mentoring relationships with the participants.
Develop Regional Mentoring Groups
Mentoring pastors also have the opportunity to develop regional groups to continue the mentoring relationships beyond the seminar. In addition to participants from the TASTE seminar, regional groups may include participants from the young adult conference.
Application Process
Pastors wishing to be considered for the Mentoring Pastors Program should send the following information to McCormick by March 1, 2008.
1. A resume (CV, PIF, Profile, etc.)
2. Response to the following questions:
>>Describe an experience you have had with a mentor.
>>Describe your current ministry context and some issues particular to that context.
>>Describe possibilities and barriers involved in developing Asian American young adult leadership for the next generations.
