About AADVENT

AADVENT, which stands for Asian American Discipleship for Vocational Empowerment, Nurture, and Transformation, is a project of McCormick Theological Seminary and is made possible by a grant from the Lilly Endowment’s Making Connections Initiative. The aim of this project is to encourage, support, and challenge new generations of Asian American young adults to consider and pursue calls to their Christian vocation.

Young Adult Conferences

A three-day conference is held each summer at McCormick Theological Seminary for Asian American young adults. Through inspiring worship, Bible study, theological reflection, and hands-on mission experiences, the conference will challenge young adults to link their faith with the mission of the church, and to help them explore possibilities for a call to pastoral service and leadership. The dates for the conference are:

August 14 - August 17, 2008
August 13 - August 16, 2009

Taste of Seminary Leadership Seminars

A one-week seminary immersion experience is held each summer at McCormick Theological Seminary for Asian American young adults who are interested in in-depth explorations into theology, biblical study, and ministry experiences. Participants are introduced to models and methods for “transformative leadership” needed for ministry in the 21st century, focusing on location, vocation, and integration. Participants will also have the opportunity to develop mentoring relationships with Asian American pastors. The dates for the seminars are:

June 27 - July 5, 2008
June 16 - July 4, 2009

Mentoring Pastors' Consultation

A group of pastors serve as “mentoring pastors,” developing mentoring relationships with participants in the Taste of Seminary Leadership Seminars. These pastors also participate in seminars and consultations as a part of the on-going effort to develop the next generation of Asian American leaders.
